Villarreal moves against next phase of Europa League after winning 2-1 FC Salzburg

Villarreal won at home 2-1 against Salzburg the return match of round of 16 held this Thursday at the Estadio de la Ceramica. The first leg match held at the stadium FC Salzburg ended with a score of 0-2 in favor Villarreal.

FC Salzburg started well as, with Mergim Berisha opening the scoring, 17 minutes in. However, their lead didn’t last for long, as an equalizer from a Gerard Moreno just before half-time brought Villarreal level, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.

Villarreal continued to pile on the pressure the second half, thanks to another goal from Gerard Moreno, scoring his second goal just before the final whistle. The game ended with a 2-1 victory for Villarreal.

For Villarreal, Moi Gomez, Samuel Chukwueze, Juan Foyth, Fer Nino and Alex Baena came on for Albert Vallci, Brendan Aaronson, Antoine Bernede, Patson Daka and Rasmus Kristensen, while Salzburg brought on Maximilian Wober, Luka Sucic, Karim Adeyemi, Antonin Svoboda and Oumar Solet to replace Albert Vallci, Brendan Aaronson, Antoine Bernede, Patson Daka and Rasmus Kristensen.

There were bookings for Jaume Costa from Villarreal and Albert Vallci, Enock Mwepu, Patson Daka and Karim Adeyemi for Salzburg.
