Empoli fell to an away defeat at the hands of Ascoli at Stadio Cino e Lillo Del Duca on Saturday. Both teams arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. ASC were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the SPAL away (2-1), the other to AC Monza at home (1-0). EMP were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Brecia Calcio and Reggiana. Following today’s result, ASC and EMP are 16th, (40 points) and 1st, (67 points), in the table respectively, after 35 matches.

It was an impressive opening from ASC, with a goal from Dionisi in the 39th minute, seeing out the first half 1-0.

ASC continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Bajić finding the net at the 60 minute mark so at full time it was 2-0 to ASC.

For ASC, Bidaoui, Eramo, Simeri and Tommaso D’orazio, came on for Dionisi, Caligara, Bajić and Kragl. EMP replaced Olivieri, Haas, Crociata, Moreo and Fiamozzi with Matos, Bandinelli, Zurkowski, La Mantia and Sabelli.

There were bookings for Brosco, Avlonitis and Büchel from ASC, and Zurkowski, Sabelli and Moreo, for EMP.

ASC will next play Reggina away, with EMP facing Nuova Cosenza at home.
