Inter defeat Lazio 3-1 on Sunday at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza. Both Internazionale and Lazio arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Internazionale were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Fiorentina away and Benevento at home, by 2-0 and 4-0 respectively whilst Lazio were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against Cagliari and Atalanta. After today’s result, Internazionale are in 1st place, with 50 points from 22 matches, while Lazio sit in 7th, with 40 points from 22.
It was an impressive opening from Internazionale, beginning with a goal from Romelu Lukaku in minute 22. Later, Internazionale scored again and increased their advantage thanks to another goal from Romelu Lukaku, scoring his second goal in the 45th minute just before half-time, thereby seeing the first half to a 2-0.
Lazio took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Gonzalo Escalante, 61 minutes in. However, Internazionale, 64 minutes in increased their lead with a Lautaro Martinez goal, which sealed the victory for Internazionale.
For Internazionale Roberto Gagliardini, Alexis Sanchez, Matteo Darmian, Danilo D`Ambrosio and Andrea Pinamonti came on for Christian Eriksen, Lautaro Martinez, Ivan Perisic, Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku, while Lazio brought on Gonzalo Escalante, Marco Parolo, Vedat Muriqi, Felipe Caicedo and Andreas Pereira to replace Lucas Leiva, Wesley Hoedt, Ciro Immobile, Joaquin Correa and Luis Alberto.
There were bookings for Romelu Lukaku and Achraf Hakimi from Inter and Wesley Hoedt for Lazio.
