Genoa 3 – Verona 3: All even at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris against The Yellow and Blues

Genoa were held to 3-3 draw by Verona down on Saturday at the Stadio Luigi Ferraris. With both teams drawing in their previous fixtures, they were keen to pick up points. Genoa wanted to continue adding points after a 2-2 draw against Bologna. Verona had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Salernitana. After today’s result, both teams are on 5 points and occupy 15th and 14th places respectively after 6 matches.

The Yellow and Blues dominated the first half, thanks to Giovanni Simeone finding the net at the 8 minute mark to take them into the break 0-1 up.

Verona started the second half with renewed vigour, with an early penalty goal from Antonin Barak in the 49th minute. However, The Griffin weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Domenico Criscito in the 77th minute. The momentum was now with Genoa, who then scored again through a goal from Mattia Destro at the 80 minute mark to establish a 2-2. Genoa looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a 2nd effort from Mattia Destro in the 85th minute to establish a 3-2. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Nikola Kalinic equalised for Verona just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 3-3.

For Genoa, Valon Behrami, Goran Pandev, Mattia Bani, Caleb Ekuban and Paolo Ghiglione, came on for Filippo Melegoni, Andrea Cambiaso, Nikola Maksimovic, Yayah Kallon and Davide Biraschi. Verona replaced Darko Lazovic, Giovanni Simeone, Adrien Tameze, Davide Faraoni and Kevin Lasagna for Bosko Sutalo, Nikola Kalinic, Daniel Bessa, Giangiacomo Magnani and Gianluca Caprari.

There were bookings for Nikola Maksimovic, Valon Behrami and Goran Pandev from Genoa, and Koray Gunter and Ivan Ilic, for Verona.

Genoa will play away against Salernitana, while Verona will face Spezia Calcio at home.
