Cagliari 0 – Empoli 2 – Visitors ecstatic after win at Unipol Domus

Empoli’s 2-0 win over Cagliari on Wednesday, was hard fought at Unipol Domus. Cagliari arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 2-2 draw against Lazio. Empoli lost 3-0 in the last match they played against Sampdoria. Following today’s result, Cagliari are in 19th place on the table and has 2 points while Empoli sit in 11th with 6 points after 5 matches.

Azzurri started strongly in the first half, thanks to Federico Di Francesco finding the net at the 29 minute mark to see out the first half 0-1.

Empoli continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Leo Stulac finding the net, at 69 minutes, leaving the final score at 2-0.

For Cagliari, Kevin Strootman, Diego Godin, Martin Caceres, Gaston Pereiro and Leonardo Pavoletti, came on for Alessandro Deiola, Andrea Carboni, Sebastian Walukiewicz, Babis Lykogiannis and Luca Ceppitelli. Empoli brought on Ardian Ismajli, Leo Stulac, Kristjan Asllani, Nedim Bajrami and Andrea La Mantia, to replace Petar Stojanovic, Samuele Ricci, Nicolas Haas, Federico Di Francesco and Andrea Pinamonti.

There were bookings for Diego Godin and Nahitan Nandez from Cagliari. For Empoli, Szymon Zurkowski saw yellow.

Cagliari will next travel to Napoli, while Empoli will face Bologna at home.
