Wolverhampton Wanderers’ 2-1 win over Newcastle United on Saturday, was hard fought at Molineux Stadium. Wolves were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run, following a 1-0 victory against Southampton. Newcastle are struggling for form following a draw in their last match. Following today’s result, Wolves and Newcastle are 10th, (9 points) and 19th, (3 points), in the league respectively, after 7 matches.
Wolves started strongly in the first half, with Hee-chan Hwang giving Wolves the lead, 20 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Jeff Hendrick equalised for Newcastle just before half-time, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.
Wolves continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Hee-chan Hwang finding the net again in the 58th minute. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 2-1 to Wolves.
For Wolves, Leander Dendoncker and Adama Traore, came on for Trincao and Hee-chan Hwang. Newcastle replaced Jeff Hendrick, Jacob Murphy and Dwight Gayle with Joseph Willock, Javi Manquillo and Miguel Almiron.
The referee booked Ciaran Clark and Javi Manquillo for Newcastle.
Wolves will next travel to Aston Villa, while Newcastle will face Tottenham Hotspur at home.
