Aston Villa suffer a first loss against City in their first match of the new Premier League campaign. Today’s result, Manchester City are in 1st place on the table and has 38 points while Aston Villa sit in 10th with 26 points after 1 match.

After a goalless first half, Manchester City continued to pile on the pressure the second half and were rewarded, beginning with Bernardo Silva opening the scoring in the 79th minute. Later, Manchester City scored again and increased their advantage thanks to a penalty goal from Ilkay Gundogan in the 90th minute just before the final whistle, sealing a resounding 2-0 victory for the home side.

Both managers made their full set of substitutions. For City, Olexandr Zinchenko, Gabriel Jesus and Riyad Mahrez came on for Kyle Walker, Kevin De Bruyne and Raheem Sterling, while Villa brought on Anwar El Ghazi, Jacob Ramsey and Neil Taylor to replace Bertrand Traore, Ross Barkley and Matt Targett.

The referee booked Douglas Luiz and Neil Taylor for Aston Villa.

In the second round of action in the Premier League Manchester City will play against West Bromwich Albion away and Aston Villa will play against Tottenham Hotspur at home.
