Visitors leave with nothing, as Burnley secure 3-2 home win against Aston Villa

Villa fell to an away defeat at the hands of Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday. Both teams came from defeats in their previous league games. Burnley were looking forward to meeting again after losing 1-0 to West Ham United in their previous fixture. Aston Villa lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Manchester United. As it stands, Burnley are in 15th place, with 22 points from 20 matches, while Aston Villa sit in 10th, with 29 points from 20.

Aston Villa started the first half well, with a goal from Ollie Watkins, 14 minutes in and managed to see out the first half 1-0.

The second half started favourably for Burnley, beginning with a goal from Ben Mee in the 52nd minute. Aston Villa reestablished their lead thanks to a goal from Jack Grealish, 68 minutes in to establish the 2-1. However, they didn’t maintain the lead for long though, an equalizer from a goal from Dwight McNeil, 76 minutes in brought Burnley level. Later, Burnley took the lead with a goal form a goal from Chris Wood, 79 minutes in. The game ended with a 3-2 victory for Burnley.

Burnley brought on Jack Cork, Johann Gudmundsson and Matej Vydra for Josh Brownhill, Robbie Brady and Jay Rodriguez. Aston Villa brought on Anwar El Ghazi, Trezeguet and Keinan Davis, to replace Ross Barkley, Bertrand Traore and Douglas Luiz.

The referee booked James Tarkowski for Burnley.

Next up, Burnley are away to Chelsea, whilst Aston Villa will travel to face Southampton.
