Aston Villa defeat Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 on Wednesday at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Spurs were looking to continue their run, following a 2-0 victory against Wolverhampton Wanderers while Villa were beaten 3-2 in the previous match against Crystal Palace. As it stands, Spurs are currently 6th with 59 points from 37 matches, while Villa sit in 11th, with 52 points from 37.
The Lilywhites started strongly in the first half, thanks to Steven Bergwijn giving Spurs the lead in the 8th minute. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Sergio Reguilon managed to equalize and take the sides off, on 20 minutes at 1-1. However they weren’t finished yet and Ollie Watkins made it 2-1, 39 minutes in and seeing the first half out 1-2. Both teams unable to deliver anything further, the score remained at 2-1 at full time.
Spurs brought on Gareth Bale, Tanguy Ndombele and Matt Doherty for Steven Bergwijn, Harry Winks and Japhet Tanganga. Villa brought on Douglas Luiz, Carney Chukwuemeka and Jaden Philogene Bidace, to replace Jack Grealish, Marvelous Nakamba and Bertrand Traore.
There were bookings for Pierre Hojbjerg from Spurs. For Villa, John McGinn saw yellow.
Spurs will next play Leicester City away, with Villa facing Chelsea at home.
