Newcastle on home loss to Arsenal at St James’ Park on Sunday. Newcastle wanted to continue adding points following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Liverpool in their previous game. Arsenal, on the other hand, lost 1-0 in the last match they played against Everton. After today’s result, Newcastle and Arsenal currently occupy 17th and 9th spots in the league, with 36 points and 49 points respectively after 34 matches.

The Gunners started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Mohamed Elneny early in the first half, finishing the first half 0-1.

Arsenal continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at the 66 minute mark. They managed to see the game out with a clean sheet and a final score of 2-0.

Newcastle brought on Fabian Schar, Joelinton and Dwight Gayle for Federico Fernandez, Miguel Almiron and Ciaran Clark. Arsenal brought on Calum Chambers, Nicolas Pepe and Thomas Partey, to replace David Luiz, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Martin Odegaard.

The referee booked Miguel Almiron and Federico Fernandez from Newcastle and Fabian Schar went off with a red card, while Arsenal’s Granit Xhaka also received a yellow.

Newcastle will next travel to Leicester City, while Arsenal will face West Bromwich Albion at home.
