Tottenham were defeated at home by Liverpool at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday. Tottenham Hotspur were looking to continue their run, following a 3-1 victory against Sheffield United. Liverpool had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Manchester United. As it stands, Tottenham Hotspur are in 6th place, with 33 points from 20 matches, while Liverpool sit in 4th, with 37 points from 20.

Liverpool started strong and were rewarded, with Roberto Firmino opening the scoring, 45 minutes in. Later, Liverpool scored again and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Trent Alexander-Arnold in the 47th minute just before half-time, finalising the first half with a 2-0.

The second half started favourably for Tottenham Hotspur, beginning with early goal from Pierre Hojbjerg in the 49th minute. Liverpool increased their advantage thanks to a goal from Sadio Mane, 65 minutes in to establish the 3-1, sealing a resounding 3-1 victory for the away side.

Both coaches used all substitutions. For Tottenham Hotspur Harry Winks, Erik Lamela and Gareth Bale came on for Serge Aurier, Harry Kane and Steven Bergwijn, while Liverpool brought on Nathaniel Phillips, Curtis Jones and Divock Origi to replace Joel Matip, Thiago Alcantara and Roberto Firmino.

There were bookings for Steven Bergwijn from Tottenham and Thiago Alcantara and Nathaniel Phillips for Liverpool.

Next up, Tottenham Hotspur are away to Brighton & Hove Albion, whilst Liverpool will travel to face West Ham United.
