Arsenal beats Chelsea 1-0 on Wednesday at Stamford Bridge. Both sides arrived fresh from some positive results. Chelsea had been hopeful of continuing their run after winning their previous two matches in the competition. The most recent was against the Manchester City away (2-1), the other to Fulham at home (2-0). Arsenal were hoping to increase their winning streak after back-to-back victories against West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United. As things stand, Chelsea are currently 4th with 64 points from 36 matches, while Arsenal sit in 8th, with 55 points from 36.
Arsenal started the first half well, with Emile Smith-Rowe giving The Gunners the lead at the 16 minute mark to take them into the break 0-1 up. The second half ended with little further action at either end and goalless.
Both coaches used the full entitlement. For Chelsea, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Olivier Giroud and Hakim Ziyech, came on for Billy Gilmour, Kai Havertz and Cesar Azpilicueta, Arsenal replaced Hector Bellerin, Alexandre Lacazette and Calum Chambers with Bukayo Saka, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Hector Bellerin.
The referee booked one player from Arsenal, Thomas Partey.
Chelsea will next play Leicester City at home, with Arsenal facing Crystal Palace away.
