Brighton & Hove Albion snatched all three points from Watford in a 2-0 victory on Saturday, at the Amex Stadium. Both Brighton and Watford arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Brighton were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run, following a 2-1 victory against Burnley. Watford, on the other hand, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 3-2 victory against Aston Villa. After today’s result, Brighton are currently 2nd with 6 points from 2 matches, while Watford sit in 12th, with 3 points from 2.
Brighton dominated the first half, with Shane Duffy finding the net, 10 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Neal Maupay just before half-time to secure a 2-0 win. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 2-0.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For Brighton, Aaron Connolly, Enock Mwepu and Jakub Moder, came on for Neal Maupay, Leandro Trossard and Adam Lallana, Watford brought on Cucho Hernandez, Joshua King and Troy Deeney, to replace Imran Louza, Craig Cathcart and Ken Sema.
The referee booked Adam Webster, Shane Duffy, Enock Mwepu and Solly March for Brighton.
Brighton will next play Everton at home, with Watford facing Tottenham Hotspur away.
