Aston Villa strolled past Newcastle United with a 2-0 win on Saturday at Villa Park. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Villa arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing their last game 3-2 to Watford. Newcastle were beaten 4-2 in the previous match against West Ham United. After today’s result, both teams are on 0 points and occupy 13th and 15th places respectively after 2 matches.

The Villa continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Anwar El Ghazi finding the net, at 62 minutes, which sealed the victory for Villa.

Both coaches used all available substitutions. For Villa, Jaden Philogene-Bidace, Axel Tuanzebe and Wesley, came on for Emiliano Buendia, Douglas Luiz and Danny Ings, Newcastle replaced Sean Longstaff, Joelinton and Ryan Fraser with Isaac Hayden, Federico Fernandez and Joseph Willock.

There were bookings for Douglas Luiz, Emilano Martinez and Emiliano Buendia from Villa. For Newcastle, Callum Wilson, Isaac Hayden, Jacob Murphy and Fabian Schar saw yellow.

Newcastle and Villa will next play at home to Southampton and Brentford respectively.
