Villa 1 – Brentford 1: The Villa held at Villa Park by The Bees

Villa were held to 1-1 draw by Brentford down on Saturday at Villa Park. Villa were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Brentford had to settle for a draw 0-0 against Crystal Palace. After today’s result, Villa and Brentford currently occupy 11th and 9th spots in the table, with 4 points and 5 points respectively after 3 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Bees, with Ivan Toney giving Brentford the lead after only 7 minutes. However, their lead was short lived, as Emiliano Buendia equalised for The Villa, 13 minutes in and seeing the first half out 1-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 1-1.

Both coaches used allfull available substitutions. For Villa, Marvelous Nakamba, Ollie Watkins and Kortney Hause, came on for Carney Chukwuemeka, Ashley Young and Ezri Konsa, Brentford brought on Yoane Wissa, Mathias Jensen and Shandon Baptiste, to replace Saman Ghoddos, Bryan Mbeumo and Vitaly Janelt.

There were bookings for Anwar El Ghazi, Matty Cash and Danny Ings from Villa. For Brentford, Ivan Toney, Christian Norgaard and Vitaly Janelt saw yellow.

Villa will play away against Chelsea, while Brentford will face Brighton & Hove Albion at home.
