Toronto FC succumbed to a home defeat against D.C. United at BMO Field on Sunday. This left, Phili are in 13th place on the table and has 28 points while D.C. sit in 8th with 47 points after 46 matches.
Black-and-Red started the first half well, thanks to Birnbaum finding the net, 13 minutes in. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Laryea in the 18th minute brought Phili level. However, each side looked hungry to win and D.C. then found the back of the net in the 30th minute thanks to Kamara, taking the score to 2-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Kamara in the 36th minute. The score at half time was 1-3. Both teams unable to deliver anything further, the score remained at 3-1 at full time.
For Phili, Deleon, Okello, Dwyer, Jordan Perruzza and Mullins, came on for Mavinga, Marshall-Ruty, Altidore, Achara and Morrow. D.C. brought on Chris Odoi-Atsem, Perez, Pines, Moreno and Ábila, to replace Najar, Arriola, Julian Gressel, Felipe Martins and Robertha.
There were bookings for Dwyer from Phili, and Felipe Martins, Pines and Mora, for D.C.
