Real Salt Lake 1-3 Portland Timbers: Visitors Leave Rio Tinto Stadium With Win

Portland Timbers beat Real Salt Lake with a thumping 3-1 victory on Thursday at Rio Tinto Stadium. After today’s result, RSL are in 9th place, with 45 points from 45 matches, while Portland sit in 4th, with 52 points from 45.

Portland started strongly in the first half, with Blanco finding the net in the 17th minute. The Timbers looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Herrera, 38 minutes in to establish a 2-0. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a 2nd effort from Blanco just before half-time, which saw the first half end 0-3.

RSL took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Rusnák just before the final whistle. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 3-1 to Portland.

For RSL, Meram, Wood, Menéndez and Julio, came on for Brody, Méndez, Chang and Everton. Portland brought on Mora, Moreno, Fochive and Loria, to replace Niezgoda, Blanco, Paredes and Chará.

There were bookings for Ruiz from RSL. For Portland, Tuiloma and Bravo saw yellow.

RSL will play away against Sporting Kansas City, while Portland will face Austin at home.
