RSL 3 – COLO 1: Visitors leave Rio Tinto Stadium empty handed

Real Salt Lake defeat Colorado Rapids 3-1 on Sunday at Rio Tinto Stadium. Following today’s result, RSL and COLO currently occupy 5th and 3rd spots in the table, with 42 points and 51 points respectively after 39 matches.

It was an impressive opening from Claret and Cobalt, thanks to a goal from Kreilach in the 13th minute and seeing the first half out 1-0.

RSL continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Méndez finding the net in the 57th minute. However, COLO weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Namli after 73 minutes. RSL increased their lead thanks to a goal from Julio just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 3-1.

For RSL, Julio, Morgan and Nick Besler, came on for Méndez, Chang and Everton. COLO brought on Namli, Barrios, Mezquida, Badji and Shinyashiki, to replace Warner, Galván, Bassett, Jonathan Lewis and Rubio.

There were bookings for Holt and Ochoa from RSL, and Warner, Price and Rubio, for COLO.
