Portland 2 – Seattle 6- Providence Park stunned as visitors seal victory

Seattle Sounders eased past Portland Timbers in a 6-2 victory on Monday at Providence Park. As the table looks today, Portland and Seattle currently occupy 8th and 2nd spots in the table, with 23 points and 36 points respectively after 26 matches.

It was an impressive opening from The Sounders, with Montero opening the rout, 13 minutes in. Seattle looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a second effort from Montero at the 29 minute mark to establish a 2-0. However, The Timbers secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Blanco, 32 minutes in, which saw the first half end 1-2.

Portland started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with Fochive finding the net, 52 minutes in. However, each side looked hungry to win and The Sounders then found the back of the net, 56 minutes in thanks to Ruidíaz, taking the score to 3-2. Seattle looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a 2nd effort from Ruidíaz, 72 minutes in to establish a 4-2. The momentum was now with Seattle, who then scored again through a goal from Medranda, 78 minutes in to establish a 5-2. However they weren’t finished yet and Benezet made it 6-2 just before the final whistle to make it 6-2.

For Portland, Paredes, Loria, Valeri, Niezgoda and Tuiloma, came on for Blanco, Fochive, Asprilla, Chará and Van Rankin. Seattle brought on Lodeiro, Medranda, Atencio, Benezet and Leyva, to replace Rowe, Smith, Montero, Paulo and Ruidíaz.

There were bookings for Mabiala, Župarić and Paredes from Portland, and Paulo, for Seattle.

Seattle and Portland will next play away to FC Dallas and Sporting Kansas City respectively.
