Portland 6 – RSL 1- The Timbers prevail in a 6 goal thriller at home

Portland Timbers ease to a comfortable 6-1 win at Providence Park. After today’s result, Portland are in 4th place, with 40 points from 36 matches, while RSL sit in 7th, with 36 points from 36.

Portland didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Mora opening the rout in the 27th minute. Portland looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Asprilla, 36 minutes in to establish a 2-0. However, RSL secured the points emphatically, with a goal from Kreilach just before half-time, which saw the first half end 2-1.

The Timbers started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early goal from Chará in the 49th minute. The momentum was now with Portland, who then scored again through a goal from Chará, 68 minutes in to establish a 4-1. The momentum was now with The Timbers, who then scored again through a goal from Niezgoda, at 85 minutes to establish a 5-1. However they weren’t finished yet and Paredes made it 6-1 just before the final whistle with a final score of 6-1.

For Portland, Paredes, Moreno, Niezgoda, Loria and Valeri, came on for Fochive, Asprilla, Mora, Blanco and Chará. RSL brought on Powder, Menéndez, Julio and Milan Iloski, to replace Datković, Meram, Ruiz and Méndez.

There were bookings for Chará from Portland. For RSL, Ruiz and Glad saw yellow.

Portland will next travel to Los Angeles FC, while RSL will face LA Galaxy at home.
