Minnesota United made their attempt to win the MLS Play-In and play the playoffs, but luck wasn’t on their side and they lost to Portland Timbers. As a consequence, the Portland team will have a chance to become tournament champion in the next game. It will not be an easy path, but with strength all dreams can be achieved.

The first half of the game started favourably for The Loons, with Fragapane giving Minnesota the lead at the 11 minute mark. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Mabiala managed to equalize and take the sides off at the 43 minute mark at 1-1. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Blanco just before half-time, finalising the first half 2-1.

Portland continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Blanco finding the net again at the 66 minute mark, which sealed the victory for Portland.

Both coaches used all available substitutions. For Portland, Niezgoda, Moreno and Valeri, came on for Mora, Blanco and Chará, Minnesota brought on Dotson, Niko Hansen and Rosales, to replace Métanire, Hunou and Trapp.

There were bookings for Blanco and Mabiala from Portland. For Minnesota, Trapp, Chase Gasper, Boxall, Fragapane, Rosales and Dibassy saw yellow.
