Revs 2 – NYC 2-Revs claim draw vs NYC: 2-2 at Gillette Stadium

NYC qualify for the Conference Finals after winning the penalty shootout against Revs this Wednesday at the Gillette Stadium. Another victory, one step further to the last clash.

NYC started the first half well, thanks to an early goal from Rodríguez in the 3rd minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Buksa equalised for Revs in the 9th minute to see out the first half 1-1. Both teams struggled to produce anything in the second half and the game ended 1-1.

Although the game concluded 1-1 extra time was necessary, since both teams were tied. In the first half neither team scored a goal so it finalised 1-1.

In the the second half of extra time The Pigeons, with Castellanos giving NYC the lead at the 110 minute mark. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Buchanan equalised for Revs in the 118th minute, finalising the game at 2-2.

After the 120 minutes of the match both teams had to measure their strength during a penalty shootout in which they won NYC, which was won by a score of 3 – 5 penalties in the round.

For Revs, Maciel and Traustason, came on for Polster and Mcnamara. NYC replaced Rocha, Andrade and Thórarinsson with Sands, Medina and Amundsen.

The referee booked Polster and Buksa from Revs. NYC had the worst of it though, with Castellanos, Rodríguez and Morales seeing yellow, and Castellanos (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

The Pigeons now march on to the next stage, having dispatched their opponents in the last. This was a result that will give them renewed confidence going forward.
