Man City enjoyed a home win against Mönchengladbach, in their round of 16 return match this Tuesday at the Etihad Stadium. After the 90 minutes of play, the final result was 2-0 to The Citizens, and with the first match ending with a 0-2 victory for Pep Guardiola’s men, they go through convincingly.
It was an impressive opening from Man City, thanks to Kevin De Bruyne finding the net in the 12th minute. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Ilkay Gundogan, 18 minutes in to see out the first half 2-0. Both teams struggled to produce anything in the second half and the game ended 2-0.
For Man City, Fernandinho, Olexandr Zinchenko, Raheem Sterling, Aymeric Laporte and Sergio Aguero, came on for Rodri, Joao Cancelo, Ilkay Gundogan, Ruben Dias and Bernardo Silva. Mönchengladbach brought on Alassane Plea, Hannes Wolf, Ibrahima Traore, Tony Jantschke and Oscar Wendt, to replace Marcus Thuram, Breel Embolo, Lars Stindl, Nico Elvedi and Ramy Bensebaini.
There were bookings for Joao Cancelo and Fernandinho from Man City. For Mönchengladbach, Stefan Lainer saw yellow.
Man City will be brimming with confidence after delivering two convincing wins in this stage of the competition. Expectations will be high, but so will the standard of the opposition as they go forward.
