Monday’s clash between Portland and Austin, sees fourth take on twelfth in the League.

This season’s Major League Soccer campaign, has so far seen Portland Timbers achieve 52 points

Portland will be hoping to increase their row, after victories over both Real Salt Lake and San Jose.

Also, Portland keep finding ways to win, having secured nine victories in their last 13 games is astonishing this season. With 52 points (16W, 13L and 4D), they are established in fourth position in the League having won 16 fixtures, drawn four matches, and lost 13 meetings.

Portland’s home record is commendable, having won 10 games, drawn two fixtures, and lost four matches this season. This record should be most concerning for Austin.

A win in this fixture, would take Portland Timbers’s points from 52 to 55, so far this season.

Good Attacking Performance

They have a good scoring average of 53 goals. This has been largely down to the key attacking players: Aljaž, Hunter, and Jeff. Portland have shown a poor defensive display so far, having conceded 52 goals in their previous games.

Austin have 31 points to their name, going into this tie

Sporting Kansas City were beaten 3-1 at Q2 Stadium, the last time that Austin played.

Also, Austin have now lost 14 of their last 20 meetings, a worrying statistic that has to be addressed by Manager Josh Wolff. With a twelfth position in the league and 9 wins, 20 losses and 4 draws, they currently have 31 points in the League having won nine matches, drawn four fixtures, and lost 20 meetings.

Austin have had a disappointing run of performances on the road, having won two games, drawn two matches, and lost 12 matches of their 16 League matches playing away this season.

A win in this fixture would take Austin’s points to 34 in the League.
