Lazio’s 2-1 win over Spezia Calcio on Saturday, was hard fought at the Stadio Olympico. Both Lazio and Spezia arrived on the back of wins. Lazio were looking to pick up points after winning their previous two matches against Udinese away and Crotone at home, by 1-0 and 3-2 respectively. Spezia, on the other hand, were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-1 win against Cagliari in their last match. Following today’s result, Lazio and Spezia sit 6th, (52 points) and 16th, (29 points), in the league respectively, after 29 matches.
After an un-eventful first half, Lazio piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Manuel Lazzari giving The White and Sky Blues the lead, 56 minutes in. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Daniele Verde producing an equaliser, 73 minutes in, bringing Spezia level. Lazio in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from Felipe Caicedo. When the final wisthle blew, the result was 2-1 to Lazio.
For Lazio, Mohamed Fares, Luis Alberto, Jean Akpa, Felipe Caicedo and Danilo Cataldi, came on for Senad Lulic, Andreas Pereira, Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Ciro Immobile and Lucas Leiva. Spezia brought on Lucien Agoume, Riccardo Marchizza, Kevin Agudelo, Daniele Verde and M’bala Nzola, to replace Giulio Maggiore, Simone Bastoni, Leo Sena, Diego Farias and Roberto Piccoli.
The referee booked seven players. Andreas Pereira and Joaquin Correa from Lazio, who saw yellow cards and Joaquin Correa (2 yellow cards) and Manuel Lazzari, sent off with a red, as well as for Spezia Julian Chabot, Kevin Agudelo and M’bala Nzola received yellows.
Lazio will next play Hellas Verona away, with Spezia facing Crotone at home.
