Portland 2 – Kansas 1- Visitors to Providence Park leave with nothing

Portland Timbers’ 2-1 win over Sporting Kansas City on Sunday, was hard fought at Providence Park. Following today’s result, Portland are in 7th place, with 12 points from 11 matches, while Kansas sit in 3rd, with 16 points from 11.

Kansas started strong and were rewarded for their efforts, thanks to Lindsey giving Wizards the lead, 28 minutes in. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Asprilla producing an equaliser, 36 minutes in, bringing Portland level. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from Loria just before half-time, finishing the first half 2-1. The second half ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

For Portland, Zambrano, Mabiala and Blanco, came on for Asprilla, Loria and Valeri. Kansas replaced Shelton with Espinoza.

There were bookings for Župarić and Zambrano from Portland, and Fontàs, Espinoza and Ilie, for Kansas.

Portland will play away against Houston Dynamo, while Kansas will face Colorado Rapids at home.
