Millwall enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Birmingham at the Den on Wednesday. Millwall were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games against Reading away and Sheffield Wednesday at home, by 2-1 and 4-1 respectively. Birmingham City lost 1-0 in the last match they played against Luton Town. After today’s result, Millwall and Birmingham City currently occupy 10th and 23rd spots in the table, with 41 points and 28 points respectively after 30 matches.

Millwall started well as, beginning with early goal from Jed Wallace in the 2nd minute, finalising the first half with a 1-0.

Millwall continued to pile on the pressure the second half and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Ben Thompson, 75 minutes in. The game ended with a 2-0 victory for Millwall.

For Millwall Alex Pearce, Billy Mitchell, Jon Dadi Bödvarsson, Tom Bradshaw and Shane Ferguson came on for Jake Cooper, Mason Bennett, Matt Smith, Jed Wallace and Ben Thompson, while Birmingham brought on Yann Valery, Ivan Sanchez, Jonathan Leko and Jeremie Bela to replace Mikel San Jose, Ivan Sunjic, Lukas Jutkiewicz and Maxime Colin.

There were bookings for Mahlon Romeo and Ryan Woods from Millwall and Rakeem Harper and Lukas Jutkiewicz for Birmingham.

Millwall will next play Wycombe Wanderers at home, with Birmingham City facing Sheffield Wednesday away.
