Marseille 1 – Reims 1: the Orange Velodrome sees frustrating draw

Marseille were held to 1-1 draw by Reims down on Wednesday at the Orange Velodrome. Both Marseille and Reims arrived on the back of wins. Marseille were looking to continue their run, following a 2-0 victory against RC Strasburg. Reims were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-0 win against Saint-Étienne in their last match. After today’s result, Marseille are in 3rd place on the table and has 33 points while Reims sit in 14th with 23 points after 19 matches.

Following a goalless first half, Reims fought back the second half, thanks to Hugo Ekitike finding the net in the 75th minute. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Dimitri Payet equalised for Marseille just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 1-1.

For Marseille, Konrad De La Fuente, Bamba Dieng and Pol Lirola, came on for Arkadiusz Milik, Gerson and Duje Caleta-Car. Reims replaced Bradley Locko, Hugo Ekitike, Martin Adeline and Ibrahim Diakite with Ilan Kebbal, El Bilal Toure, Nathanael Mbuku and Moreto Cassama.

Marseille and Reims played a tough game where the referee sanctioned Marseille with yellow cards to Valentin Rongier, Gerson and Boubacar Kamara and with red card to Bamba Dieng, while from Reims Moreto Cassama, Yunis Abdelhamid and Andrew Gravillon were booked and red to Andrew Gravillon (2 yellow cards).

Next up, Marseille are away to Bordeaux, whilst Reims will travel to face Clermont Foot.
