Olympique de Marseille beat Angers SCO with a thumping 3-2 victory on Sunday at the Orange Velodrome. Marseille arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing 1-0 to Saint-Étienne in their last match. Angers, on the other hand, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 3-0 victory against Dijon FCO. After today’s result, Marseille and Angers are 5th, (59 points) and 12th, (44 points), spots respectively, after 37 matches.

The Phocaeans started strongly in the first half, thanks to a goal from Arek Milik, 9 minutes in and seeing the first half out 1-0.

Marseille started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, with an early effort from Arek Milik in the 48th minute. However, Angers weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Mathias Pereira Lage, 57 minutes in. Le SCO looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Romain Thomas at the 85 minute mark to establish a 2-2. Marseille in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with a hat trick effort from Arek Milik and seeing the game end 3-2.

For Marseille, Jordan Amavi, Cheikh Ahmadou Bamba Mbacke Dieng, Dario Benedetto and Leonardo Balerdi, came on for Luis Henrique, Florian Thauvin, Valentin Rongier and Arek Milik. Angers brought on Jimmy Cabot, Mathias Pereira Lage, Stephane Bahoken and Mohamed Ali Cho, to replace Farid El Melali, Sada Thioub, Lois Diony and Antonin Bobichon.

There were bookings for Valentin Rongier, Arek Milik and Alvaro Gonzalez from Marseille. For Angers, Mathias Pereira Lage and Romain Thomas saw yellow.

Marseille will next travel to FC Metz, while Angers will face Lille at home.
