Saint-Étienne fell to an away defeat at the hands of Montpellier at the Stade de la Mosson on Sunday. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Montpellier were hoping to get something from this game after losing their last game 2-1 to Lille. ASSE were beaten 3-1 in the previous match against Olympique de Marseille. Following today’s result, Montpellier are in 6th place, with 7 points from 5 matches, while ASSE sit in 17th, with 3 points from 5.

La Paillade started strongly in the first half, with Stephy Mavididi giving Montpellier the lead at the 32 minute mark and seeing the first half out 1-0.

Montpellier continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Valere Germain finding the net, at 62 minutes. The game ended 2-0 to Montpellier.

For Montpellier, Nicholas Gioacchini, Maxime Esteve, Yanis Guermouche and Leo Leroy, came on for Sepe Elye Wahi, Thuler, Stephy Mavididi and Valere Germain. ASSE brought on Bryan Nokoue, Juan Ramirez, Mathys Saban, Adil Aouchiche and Jean-Philippe Krasso, to replace Yvann Macon, Arnaud Nordin, Romain Hamouma, Denis Bouanga and Wahbi Khazri.

There were bookings for Sepe Elye Wahi from Montpellier, and Denis Bouanga, Yvan Neyou, Mickael Nade and Mathys Saban, for ASSE.

Montpellier will next play Troyes away, with ASSE facing Bordeaux at home.
