Lille’s 2-0 win over Olympique de Marseille on Sunday, was hard fought at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. Lille were looking to continue their run after winning their previous two games in the league. The most recent was against the RC Strasburg away (2-1), the other to Reims at home (2-1). Marseille, on the other hand, lost 3-2 in the last match they played against RC Lens. As things stand, both teams are on 14 points and occupy 8th and 5th places respectively after 9 matches.

Les Dogues found the net first, thanks to Jonathan David giving Lille the lead at the 28 minute mark, to take a 1-0 lead into half time.

Lille continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Jonathan David finding the net again just before the final whistle, leaving the final score at 2-0.

For Lille, Gabriel Gudmundsson, Tim Weah, Xeka, Yusuf Yazici and Renato Sanches, came on for Reinildo Mandava, Jonathan Bamba, Amadou Mvom Onana, Burak Yilmaz and Jonathan Ikone. Marseille brought on Arkadiusz Milik, Boubacar Kamara, Amine Harit, Luis Henrique and Pape Alassane Gueye, to replace Bamba Dieng, Duje Caleta-Car, Gerson, Pol Lirola and Leonardo Balerdi.

The referee booked Reinildo Mandava and Burak Yilmaz from Lille. Marseille had the worst of it though, with Cengiz Under and Leonardo Balerdi seeing yellow, and Cengiz Under (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Lille will play away against Clermont Foot, while Marseille will face FC Lorient at home.
