Lille 2 – Montpellier 1: Les Dogues jubilant after home win against La Paillade

Lille’s 2-1 win over Montpellier on Sunday, was hard fought at the Stade Pierre Mauroy. Lille arrived with the intention of increasing their league score after a 1-1 draw against Saint-Étienne. Montpellier were looking to extend their winning run after a 3-1 victory against FC Lorient. As the table looks today, Lille are in 10th place on the table and has 5 points while Montpellier sit in 11th with 4 points after 4 matches.

Lille started the first half well, thanks to a goal from Yusuf Yazici, 45 minutes in. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Gaetan Laborde equalised for La Paillade just before half-time, finishing the first half 1-1.

Les Dogues continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Jonathan David at the 56 minute mark, leaving the final score at 2-1.

For Lille, Domagoj Bradaric, Jonathan Ikone, Amadou Mvom Onana and Zeki Celik, came on for Angel Gomes, Jonathan David, Yusuf Yazici and Burak Yilmaz. Montpellier brought on Mihailo Ristic, Arnaud Souquet, Sepe Elye Wahi and Maxime Esteve, to replace Joris Chotard, Nicolas Cozza, Florent Mollet and Mamadou Sakho.

The referee booked Jose Fonte, Benjamin Andre and Xeka from Lille. Montpellier had the worst of it though, with Junior Sambia, Jordan Ferri, Gaetan Laborde, Teji Savanier, Joris Chotard and Florent Mollet seeing yellow, and Junior Sambia (2 yellow cards) then sent off with a red.

Lille will next travel to FC Lorient, while Montpellier will face Saint-Étienne at home.
