Saint-Étienne fell to an away defeat at the hands of Brest at the Stade Francis-Le Blé on Wednesday. Brest were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two matches against Bordeaux away and RC Lens at home, by 2-1 and 4-0 respectively. ASSE were beaten 3-1 in the previous match against Paris Saint-Germain. As things stand, Brest and ASSE currently occupy 11th and 20th spots in the league, with 21 points and 12 points respectively after 16 matches.
After a goalless first half, Brest piled on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Romain Faivre finding the net at the 64 minute mark. The final result, Brest 1, ASSE 0.
