Saint-Étienne fell to an away defeat at the hands of AS Mónaco at the Stade Louis II on Wednesday. Monaco wanted to continue adding points after a 2-2 draw against Nice whilst ASSE lost 2-1 in the last match they played against Bordeaux. After today’s result, Monaco are in 12th place, with 8 points from 7 matches, while ASSE sit in 19th, with 3 points from 7.

The Monégasques started the first half well, thanks to Kevin Volland finding the net in the 27th minute. However, their lead was short lived, as Denis Bouanga equalised for Saints just before half-time, to take a 1-1 lead into half time.

Monaco continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Wissam Ben Yedder, at 62 minutes. However they weren’t finished yet and Wissam Ben Yedder made it 3-1 just before the final whistle to make it 3-1.

For Monaco, Aleksandr Golovin, Ruben Aguilar, Wissam Ben Yedder, Aurelien Tchouameni, Strahinja Pavlovic and Jean Lucas, came on for Eliot Matazo, Djibril Sidibe, Myron Boadu, Krepin Diatta, Caio Henrique and Kevin Volland. ASSE brought on Stefan Bajic, Zaydou Youssouf, Romain Hamouma and Ryad Boudebouz, to replace Arnaud Nordin, Mickael Nade, Jean-Philippe Krasso and Wahbi Khazri.

The referee booked Djibril Sidibe from Monaco. ASSE had the worst of it though, with Kolo seeing yellow, and Etienne Green then sent off with a red.

Monaco will next travel to Clermont Foot, while ASSE will face Nice at home.
