Morecambe FC fell to an away defeat at the hands of Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park on Saturday. Both Wycombe and Morecambe FC arrived at the challenge after previous wins. Wycombe were looking to pick up points, following a 2-1 victory against Shrewsbury Town. Morecambe FC, on the other hand, were able to continue their winning streak after a 2-0 win against Lincoln City in their last match. As the table looks today, Wycombe are currently 5th with 20 points from 11 matches, while Morecambe FC sit in 13th, with 14 points from 11.
Morecambe FC started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from Alfie John McCalmont in the 4th minute. However they weren’t finished yet and Adam Phillips made it 2-0 in the 26th minute, to take a 0-2 lead into half time.
The Chairboys started strong in the second half and were able to dominate, thanks to an early goal from Daryl Horgan in the 50th minute. The momentum was now with Wycombe, who then scored again through a goal from Sam Vokes, at 53 minutes to establish a 2-2. However, their lead didn’t last for long, Jonah Ayunga producing an equaliser at the 80 minute mark, bringing Morecambe FC level. In the end though, Wycombe just before the final whistle took the victory thanks to a Curtis Thompson goal. The game ended with a 4-3 home victory.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For Wycombe, Brandon Hanlan, Anis Mehmeti and David Wheeler, came on for Jordan Obita, Daryl Horgan and Garath McCleary, Morecambe FC brought on Ryan Cooney, Callum Jones and Jonah Ayunga, to replace Ryan McLaughlin, Adam Phillips and Arthur Gnahoua.
Morecambe FC and Wycombe will next play at home to Cambridge Utd and Gillingham FC respectively.
