Wigan Athletic 1 – Portsmouth FC 0: Visitors unable to get win at Dw Stadium

Wigan Athletic enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Portsmouth FC at Dw Stadium on Saturday. Wigan Athletic were looking to continue their run, following a 2-0 victory against Charlton Athletic whilst Portsmouth FC secured a point against Doncaster Rovers in their previous match. As the table looks today, both teams are on 10 points and occupy 4th and 5th places respectively after 5 matches.

After a goalless first half, Wigan Athletic applied pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from Callum Lang in the 78th minute. They managed to see the game out with a clean sheet and a final score of 1-0.

Both teams used all available substitutes. For Wigan Athletic, James McClean, Gavin Massey and Gwion Edwards, came on for Jordan Jones, Tom Pearce and Callum Lang, Portsmouth FC brought on Recco Hackett-Fairchild, George Hirst and Gassan Ahadme to replace Ryan Tunnicliffe, John Marquis and Marcus Harness.

The referee booked Jack Whatmough for Wigan Athletic.

Wigan Athletic will next travel to Fleetwood Town, while Portsmouth FC will face Plymouth Argyle at home.
