Wigan Athletic were held to 1-1 draw by Burton Albion down on Saturday at Dw Stadium. Wigan Athletic were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games against Shrewsbury Town away and Crewe Alexandra at home, by 2-1 and 2-0 respectively. Burton Albion, on the other hand, were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Lincoln City. As things stand, Wigan Athletic are currently 20th with 48 points from 44 matches, while Burton Albion sit in 17th, with 53 points from 44.

Burton Albion started strongly in the first half, with a goal from Joe Powell in the 16th minute. However, their celebrations were kept brief, as Will Keane equalised for Wigan Athletic, 37 minutes in to see out the first half 1-1. With both teams struggling to produce anything meaningful in the second half though, the game ended 1-1.

Both coaches used allfull available substitutions. For Wigan Athletic, Jamie Proctor and Kyle Joseph, came on for Viv Solomon-Otabor and Joe Dodoo, Burton Albion brought on Josh Earl, Danny Rowe, Kane Hemmings and Jonny Smith, to replace Michael Bostwick, Terry Taylor, Mike Fondop and Joe Powell.

The referee booked one player from Burton Albion, Joe Powell.

Wigan Athletic will next play Hull City away, with Burton Albion facing Gillingham FC at home.
