Sunderland AFC 3 – Wycombe 1- Visitors to Stadium of Light leave with nothing

Sunderland AFC snatched all three points from Wycombe Wanderers in a 3-1 victory on Saturday, at Stadium of Light. Both Sunderland AFC and Wycombe arrived on the back of wins. Sunderland AFC were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Wycombe had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Lincoln City. After today’s result, Sunderland AFC and Wycombe are 1st, (12 points) and 6th, (10 points), spots respectively, after 5 matches.

Sunderland AFC started the game well, with Ross Stewart giving Sunderland AFC the lead at the 14 minute mark. However they weren’t finished yet and Elliot Embleton made it 2-0, at 18 minutes. The first half ended 2-0.

Sunderland AFC continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to Ross Stewart finding the net again, at 83 minutes. Wycombe in turn, then responded just before the final whistle increasing their lead with an effort from David Wheeler. The final result, Sunderland AFC 3, Wycombe 1.

Both coaches used the full entitlement. For Sunderland AFC, Bailey Wright, Aiden O’Brien and Alex Pritchard, came on for Dennis Cirkin, Elliot Embleton and Aiden McGeady, Wycombe brought on David Wheeler, Adebayo Akinfenwa and Tjay De Barr to replace Anis Mehmeti, Sam Vokes and Sullay Kaikai.

There were bookings for Tom Flanagan from Sunderland AFC, and Josh Scowen, for Wycombe.
