Oxford United beat Shrewsbury Town with a thumping 3-2 victory on Saturday at Montgomery Waters Meadow. Both sides arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. Shrewsbury Town were looking to pick up points after winning last match. Oxford United were looking to extend their winning run after a 3-1 victory against Plymouth Argyle. As the table looks today, Shrewsbury Town are in 17th place, with 53 points from 45 matches, while Oxford United sit in 7th, with 71 points from 45.

Oxford United started strongly in the first half, with an early goal from Elliott Lee in the 3rd minute. However, the good fortune didn’t last for long. An equalizer from Matthew Pennington at the 16 minute mark brought Shrewsbury Town level. However they weren’t finished yet and Josh Vela made it 2-1 in the 25th minute, finalising the first half 2-1.

Oxford United continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to a goal from James Henry, 68 minutes in. Oxford United then netted once more and took the lead thanks to a goal from Daniel Agyei just before the final whistle to make it 3-2.

Shrewsbury Town will next travel to Crewe Alexandra, while Oxford United will face Burton Albion at home.
