Shrewsbury Town 2 – Gillingham FC 1: Home fans rewarded with victory at Montgomery Waters Meadow

Shrewsbury Town beat Gillingham FC with a thumping 2-1 victory on Saturday at Montgomery Waters Meadow. Shrewsbury Town were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 3-0 to Plymouth Argyle. Gillingham FC were looking to extend their winning run after a 2-1 victory against Morecambe FC. After today’s result, Shrewsbury Town and Gillingham FC currently occupy 22nd and 16th spots in the table, with 3 points and 5 points respectively after 5 matches.

Gillingham FC started the first half well, thanks to a goal from Jack Tucker, 12 minutes in to see out the first half 0-1.

Shrewsbury Town continued to apply pressure in the second and were rewarded, with a goal from Tom Bloxham at the 59 minute mark. However they weren’t finished yet and Sam Cosgrove made it 2-1 at the 68 minute mark to make it 2-1.

Both coaches used allfull available substitutions. For Shrewsbury Town, Nathanael Ogbeta, Ryan Bowman and Rekeil Pyke, came on for George Nurse, Tom Bloxham and Sam Cosgrove, Gillingham FC brought on David Tutonda, Ben Reeves and Danny Lloyd, to replace Ryan Jackson, Daniel Adshead and Rhys Bennett.

The referee booked from Shrewsbury Town David Davis and from Gillingham FC Daniel Adshead and Daniel Phillips. Both teams also had a sending off, with David Davis (2 yellow cards) and Harry Burgoyne for Shrewsbury Town and Daniel Phillips (2 yellow cards) for Gillingham FC.

Shrewsbury Town will next play Accrington Stanley away, with Gillingham FC facing Charlton Athletic at home.
