Oxford United’s 2-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, was hard fought at Hillsborough Stadium. Both SWFC and Oxford United arrived in good form, having secured victories in their previous matches. SWFC were looking to pick up points, following a 2-1 victory against Wigan Athletic. Oxford United, on the other hand, were coming from a 5-1 win against Accrington Stanley. As the table looks today, SWFC and Oxford United currently occupy 12th and 8th spots in the table, with 15 points and 18 points respectively after 11 matches.
Oxford United dominated the first half, with a goal from Cameron Brannagan at the 12 minute mark, seeing out the first half 0-1.
SWFC took the lead in the second half, thanks to Callum Paterson finding the net at the 73 minute mark. In the end though, Oxford United just before the final whistle took the victory following a James Henry goal so at full time it was 2-1 to Oxford United.
SWFC brought on Saido Berahino, Sylla Sow and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru for Lee Gregory, Olamide Shodipo and Lewis Wing. Oxford United brought on James Henry, Daniel Agyei and Ryan Williams, to replace Herbie Kane, Matty Taylor and Anthony Forde.
There were bookings for Callum Paterson and Liam Palmer from SWFC, and Steve Seddon and Alex Gorrin, for Oxford United.
SWFC will play their next fixture at home against Bolton Wanderers, while Oxford United will face Sunderland AFC away.
