Blackpool fell to an away defeat at the hands of Rochdale at Spotland on Tuesday. Both teams arrived on the back of wins. Rochdale were keen to hang onto their position at the top of league and extend their winning run after winning their previous two games against Accrington Stanley at home and Swindon Town at home, by 3-1 and 2-1 respectively. Blackpool were able to continue their winning streak after a 1-0 win against Sunderland AFC in their last match. After today’s result, Rochdale are in 22nd place on the table and has 42 points while Blackpool sit in 5th with 68 points after 43 matches.

After an un-eventful first half, Rochdale applied pressure in the second, with Oliver Rathbone giving Rochdale the lead in the 69th minute, sealing a 1-0 victory for the away side.

For Rochdale, Matt Done, Matty Lund and Conor Shaughnessy, came on for Conor Grant, Stephen Dooley and Aaron Morley. Blackpool replaced Demetri Mitchell, Jordan Gabriel, Bradley Holmes and Ethan Robson with Sulaiman Kaikai, Ellis Reco Simms, Elliot Embleton and Grant Ward.

There were bookings for Matty Lund, Oliver Rathbone and Jay Lynch from Rochdale, and Grant Ward, for Blackpool.

Rochdale will next travel to Crewe Alexandra, while Blackpool will face Shrewsbury Town at home.
