Oxford United 3 – Lincoln City 1: Visitors to Kassam Stadium leave with nothing

Lincoln City fell to an away defeat at the hands of Oxford United at Kassam Stadium on Saturday. Both teams arrived at the match from previous defeats in the league. Oxford United arrived at the game looking pick up points after losing 2-1 to Bolton Wanderers in their last match. Lincoln City were beaten 1-0 in the previous match against Wycombe Wanderers. Following today’s result, Oxford United are in 3rd place on the table and has 10 points while Lincoln City sit in 20th with 4 points after 5 matches.

Oxford United started the game well, with James Henry finding the net, at 12 minutes. Oxford United then netted again and increased their lead thanks to a effort from James Henry in the 24th minute to secure a 2-0 win.

Oxford United continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, thanks to James Henry finding the net again at the 73 minute mark. In the end though, Lincoln City just before the final whistle pull-back following a Anthony Scully goal. The game ended with a 3-1 home victory.

For Oxford United, Luke McNally, Sam Winnall and Nathan Holland, came on for Jordan Thorniley, Matty Taylor and James Henry. Lincoln City brought on Lewis Fiorini and Remy Longdon, to replace Conor McGrandles and Hakeeb Adelakun.

The referee booked Liam Bridcutt for Lincoln City.

Oxford United will next travel to AFC Wimbledon, while Lincoln City will face Rotherham United at home.
