On Saturday, Morecambe FC and Accrington Stanley were held to a 3-3 draw at Globe Arena. Both Morecambe FC and Accrington Stanley arrived at the match from previous defeats in the league. Morecambe FC were looking forward to meeting again after losing 1-0 to Doncaster Rovers in their last match. Accrington Stanley, on the other hand, were beaten 4-1 in the previous match against Wigan Athletic. After today’s result, Morecambe FC and Accrington Stanley currently occupy 16th and 7th spots in the league, with 11 points and 13 points respectively after 9 matches.
Morecambe FC dominated the first half, with Cole Stockton giving Morecambe FC the lead, at 15 minutes. However, they were unable to maintain their lead, Colby Bishop managed to equalize and take the sides off at the 19 minute mark at 1-1. The momentum was now with Accrington Stanley, who then scored again through a goal from Matt Butcher, 21 minutes in to establish a 2-1. However, their lead was short lived, as Adam Phillips equalised for Morecambe FC, 27 minutes in, finishing the first half 2-2.
Accrington Stanley took the initiative in the second half, thanks to Colby Bishop finding the net again, at 68 minutes. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Cole Stockton equalised for Morecambe FC at the 81 minute mark. The game ended wih a 3-3 draw.
Both teams used all available substitutes. For Morecambe FC, Alfie John McCalmont, Jonah Ayunga and Josh McPake, came on for Wes McDonald, Arthur Gnahoua and Adam Phillips, Accrington Stanley brought on Jack Nolan, Harry Pell and Tommy Leigh to replace Ethan Hamilton, Lewis Mansell and Seamus Conneely.
The referee booked three players. Liam Gibson from Morecambe FC, who saw yellow cards and Ryan McLaughlin, sent off with a red, as well as for Accrington Stanley Ethan Hamilton received yellows.
Morecambe FC will play at home against Lincoln City, while Accrington Stanley will face Oxford United away.
