Ipswich Town 2 – Morecambe FC 2: Plenty of goals but no win at Portman Road Stadium

Ipswich Town opens League One season with 2-2 draw against Morecambe FC. Today’s result, leave both teams on 1 point and occupying 8th and 9th positions respectively, after their first match.

Morecambe FC started the game well, thanks to Cole Stockton finding the net, 22 minutes in and managed to see out the first half 0-1.

Ipswich Town took the initiative in the second half, with Scott Fraser finding the net at the 61 minute mark. However, each side looked hungry to win and Morecambe FC then found the back of the net, 72 minutes in thanks to Cole Stockton, taking the score to 2-1. In the end though, their celebrations were kept brief, as Macauley Bonne equalised for Ipswich Town just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 2-2.

Both coaches used all available substitutions. For Ipswich Town, Janoi Donacien, Macauley Bonne and James Norwood, came on for Toto Nsiala, Conor Chaplin and Joe Pigott, Morecambe FC brought on Samuel Lavelle, Jonah Ayunga and Greg Leigh, to replace Ryan Delaney, Wes McDonald and Arthur Gnahoua.

There were bookings for Lee Evans, Matthew Penney and James Norwood from Ipswich Town. For Morecambe FC, Anthony O’Connor and Liam Gibson saw yellow.

In the second round of action in the League One Ipswich Town will play against Burton Albion away and Morecambe FC will play against Shrewsbury Town at home.
