Charlton Athletic on Saturday lost to Wigan Athletic on a home defeat at The Valley. Charlton Athletic were looking forward to meeting again after losing their last game 2-1 to Milton Keynes Dons. Wigan Athletic, on the other hand, were unable to beat Wycombe Wanderers in a 1-1 draw. Following today’s result, Charlton Athletic and Wigan Athletic currently occupy 21st and 9th spots in the league, with 1 point and 7 points respectively after 4 matches.

After a goalless first half, Wigan Athletic continued to pile on the pressure in the second and were rewarded, with Tendayi Darikwa finding the net, 88 minutes in. They then scored again, increasing their advantage thanks to a goal from James McClean just before the final whistle to make it 2-0.

Charlton Athletic brought on Corey Blackett-Taylor, Conor Washington and Josh Davison for Diallang Jaiyesimi, George Dobson and Charlie Kirk. Wigan Athletic brought on James McClean, Gavin Massey and Stephen Humphrys, to replace Callum Lang, Jordan Jones and Will Keane.
