Charlton Athletic 2 – Crewe Alexandra 0- Visitors unable to get win at The Valley

Charlton Athletic enjoyed a mesmerising home victory against Crewe Alexandra at The Valley on Saturday. With each team arriving on the back of a league defeat, they were both keen to pick up points. Charlton Athletic were looking to get back their winning ways after losing their last game 2-0 to Wigan Athletic. Crewe Alexandra lost 1-0 in the last match they played against Accrington Stanley. As things stand, Charlton Athletic are in 19th place, with 4 points from 5 matches, while Crewe Alexandra sit in 23rd, with 1 point from 5.

Charlton Athletic started strongly in the first half, thanks to a goal from Diallang Jaiyesimi in the 36th minute. Charlton Athletic then scored once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Jayden Stockley just before half-time, finalising the first half 2-0. The second half ended with little further action at either end and goalless.

Both coaches used all substitutions. For Charlton Athletic, Deji Elerewe, Elliott Lee and Sean Clare, came on for Ryan Inniss, Charlie Kirk and Diallang Jaiyesimi, Crewe Alexandra brought on Kayne Ramsay, Chris Porter and Regan Griffiths, to replace Benjamin Knight, Oliver Finney and Callum McFadzean.

There were bookings for Chris Gunter from Charlton Athletic, and Callum McFadzean and Rio Adebisi, for Crewe Alexandra.

Charlton Athletic will next travel to Gillingham FC, while Crewe Alexandra will face Morecambe FC at home.
