Cambridge 1 – Oxford United 1: Honours even and points shared at Abbey Stadium

Cambridge plays a 1-1 draw at the beginning of a new League One season against Oxford United. Today’s result, leave both teams on 1 point and occupying 11th and 16th positions respectively, after their first match.

It was an impressive opening from Oxford United, with Steve Seddon finding the net just before half-time and managed to see out the first half 0-1.

Cambridge took the lead in the second half, thanks to a goal from Joe Ironside, 78 minutes in, leaving the final score at 1-1.

For Cambridge, Adam May and Sam Smith, came on for Liam O’Neil and Shilow Tracey. Oxford United brought on Billy Bodin, Sam Winnall and Marcus McGuane, to replace Ryan Williams, Matty Taylor and Mark Sykes.

There were bookings for Liam O’Neil from Cambridge, and Ryan Williams and Steve Seddon, for Oxford United.

In the second round of action in the League One Cambridge will travel to play Accrington Stanley and Oxford United will play Charlton Athletic at home.
