Burton Albion eased past Fleetwood Town in a 5-2 victory on Tuesday at Pirelli Stadium. Burton Albion arrived with the intention of increasing their league score following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic in their previous game. Fleetwood Town, on the other hand, had been hopeful of extending their winning run, after a 1-0 victory against Doncaster Rovers. As the table looks today, Burton Albion are in 16th place on the table and has 56 points while Fleetwood Town sit in 15th with 59 points after 38 matches.
Burton Albion didn’t take long to get on the score-sheet, with Lucas Akins opening the rout in the 35th minute. Burton Albion then netted once more and increased their lead thanks to a goal from Joe Powell at the 39 minute mark. The first half ended 2-0.
Fleetwood Town took the lead in the second half, with a goal from Sam Finley, 62 minutes in. However, Burton Albion increased their advantage 3-1 thanks to a goal from Tom Hamer, 72 minutes in. Burton Albion looked to have the game under control when they scored again and incerased their lead, thanks to a goal from Kane Hemmings in the 85th minute to establish a 4-1. However, Fleetwood Town weren’t lying down and managed to pull back a goal from Jordan Rossiter, 90 minutes in. In the end though, Burton Albion secured the points emphatically, with a 2nd effort from Kane Hemmings just before the final whistle and seeing the game end 5-2.
Fleetwood Town and Burton Albion will next play at home to Milton Keynes Dons and Gillingham FC respectively.
