Victory beyond reach for Elche, as they only manage a 2-2 draw with Villarreal

Elche were held to 2-2 draw by Villarreal down on Saturday at Estadio Martínez Valero. Elche were looking forward to meeting again, following a previous defeat to Valencia. Villarreal had managed to pick up a single point in their encounter with Real Sociedad. After today’s result, Elche are currently 19th with 18 points from 22 matches, while Villarreal sit in 5th, with 36 points from 22.

Villarreal started the game well, thanks to a goal from Gerard Moreno, 16 minutes in. Later, Villarreal took the lead with a goal form another goal from Gerard Moreno, scoring his second goal, 35 minutes in. The score at half time was 2-0.

Elche staged a comeback in the second half, with early goal from Guido Carrillo in the 49th minute. Later, Elche took the lead with a goal form a goal from Lucas Boye in the 64th minute. The game ended a 2-2 draw.

For Elche, Pere Milla came on for Francis Coquelin, Gerard Moreno, Alfonso Pedraza and Jaume Costa, while Villarreal brought on Juan Foyth, Yeremi Pino, Pervis Estupinan and Carlos Bacca to replace Francis Coquelin, Gerard Moreno, Alfonso Pedraza and Jaume Costa.

There were bookings for Lucas Boye from Elche and Alfonso Pedraza and Manu Trigueros for Villarreal.

Elche will play their next fixture away against Celta Vigo, while Villarreal will face Real Betis at home.
